WEDDINGS

HUGHSON-GEORGE. An evening wedding was solemnised recently at Whiteley Church, New Plymouth, when Evelyn Mary, second daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. A. George, New Plymouth, was married to William Clarence, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Hughson, Waitara. The Rev, F. Copeland officiated and Mr. G. White was organist.

The bride, who entered the church with her brother, was attired in a period gown of white angel skin. She wore an embroidered veil, arranged artistically into a ruffle, with a silver skull cap and the orthodox orange blossoms. She carried a bouquet of white carnations, Easter lilies and maidenhair fern. The bridesmaid, Miss Elsie Chapman, wore a gown of apple-green wind-swept satin, modelled on long, close-fitting lines, with contrasting shoes and headdress of buttercup tones. She carried a bouquet of ' yellow chrysanthemums, French marigolds and maidenhair fern.

Mr. D. Richards was best man. A reception was held at the Mon Desir tea-rooms, where about fifty guests were entertained by Mrs. George, who wore a French gown of black silk marocain, with white tonings, and black hat to match. She carried a posy of scarlet begonias. Mrs. Hughson, mother of the bridegroom, wore a model gown of black silk marocain relieved with scarlet and a felt hat to tone, and carried a posy of scarlet carnations and maidenhair fern. Mr. and Mrs. Hughson left by car on a tour of the North Island, the bride travelling in a bottle-green celanese frock and felt hat to match, and a tailored coat.

WORTHINGTON-WEATHERBY.

A quiet wedding was celebrated at St. Peter’s Church, Onehunga, on April 26, when Jean Iva, only daughter of Mrs. and Mr. A. Leatherby, Onehunga, was married to Cecil Howard, second son of Mrs. and Mr. H. Worthington, Stratford. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a frock of white silk marocain and lace cut on slim fitting lines with the skirt .flaring from the knees. The veil lent by ; a friend was of tulle with sprays of orange blossom to keep it in place. The bride carried a bouquet of pifik and white flowers and maidenhair fern.

’The bride was attended by one bridesmaid, Miss Felicity Worthington, sister of the bridegroom, wearing a blue frock of windswept satin with hat and shoes to tone. Her bouquet was of bronze chrysanthemums and maidenhair fem. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. J. Williams, Onehunga, as best man. A small reception was held at the home of the bride’s patents. Mr. and Mrs. Worthington left by car for Rotorua, the bride wearing a grey tailored costume and close-fitting blue hat.
