Prenn (Germany) , 5 —7, 2—6, B—6, 6—4, 7—5. Men’s doubles:—Third round: Perry and Lee (England) defeated Kirby (South Africa) arid Miki'. (Japan), 6—2, 6—4; 2—6, 4—6, 6—3; Boussus and Merlin (France) defeated Mishimura and Kamakishi (Japan), 7—5, 6—4, 6—2. Women’s singles:—Fourth round: Miss Dorothy Round (England) defeated Mrs. Whittingstall (England), 3—6, 6—4, 6—3; Miss K. Stammers (England) defeated Mrs. Dearman (England), 7—9, 7—5, 6—2. Women’s doubles:—Second round: Miss Crichton and Miss Hobson (England) defeated Mrs. Molesworth and Miss Hartigan (Australia), 6 —2, 4 —6, 62. Third round: Mrs. Hopman and Miss Hardwick defeated Miss Crichton and Miss Hobson, 6—4, o—6,0 —6, 6—3. Combined doubles:—First round: Sharpe and Mrs. Dearman defeated Hopman and Mrs. Hopman (Australia),. B—6; 3—6, 6—3. Second round: Stedman (New Zealand) and Miss McAlpine defeated Kirby (South' Africa) and Miss Heeley (England), 2-6, 7-5, 6-3; Malfroy (New Zealand) and Miss K. Stammers (England) defeated Peters and Mrs. Peters, B—6, 6—3. . McGrath never settled down against Kirby’s top-spin drives. > McGrath’s back-hand was bad. Kirby said he had never played better. Everything went right. • x Boussus was very steady against Crawford, but the Australian was superior in the last two sets. ’ The match between Quist and Prenn set a new endurance record, the game lasting three hours and twenty minutes. Prenn had points in the final set. Quist had seven before he finally won.
