PROTECTION FROM RABBITS
ASSISTANCE TO ERECT FENCES.
REQUESTS TO THE GOVERNMENT.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night.
A request to the Minister of Lands (Hon. E. A. Ransom) at the last meeting of the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union that landowners bounded by unoccupied Crown lands and native lands be assisted to erect rabbit-proof fences on rabbitinfested country was replied to by letter by Mr. Ransom at to-day’s executive meeting.
The Minister stated that the Government could not assume financial responsibility in a general way but so far as the Lands Department was concerned, if such landowners had been financially assisted by way of a loan, applications for further assistance for the erection of rabbit-proof fences would be given consideration on their merits.
