RUGBY AT TOKIRIMA
FIRST MATCH IN BAKER CUP OHURA DEFEATS HOME TEAM The first match of the Rugby season at Tokirima was played between Ohura and Tokirima at Tokirima before a fairly large crowd. / ■ Tokirima kicked off, followed up fast, and for some minutes gave Ohura plenty of defensive work, the Tokirima backs passing in good style. Lack of condition then began to show in the home team, and Ohura, which had evidently been -playing a waiting game, and feeling the strength of, the opponents, opened out amongst the backs. Morgan, the former Taumarunui representative, was the pivot of some very good movements. From a good passing movement Fraser scored for Ohura and Morgan converted.; Tokirima from then on developed forward play and kept the opposition on the defensive. Gould, the Ohura fullback, put in some very good vffirk. Halftime was called with Ohura still making spirited attacks. On the resumption Tokirima set out to catch up the leeway, Gordon and Grant putting in good loose rushes, which eventually were successful, Gordon taking the ball at his toe to near *the line. Old, in close support, carried on over the line to score. The try was not converted.
Ohura then showed quality in backs’ play, Williams snapped up the ball, passed to Crossman who sent it to Morgan. The centre then cut out a , couple of men, passed to Howie on the wing and Howie made a brilliant dash down, the side line, scoring in the comer. A few minutes later Ohura repeated the movement, Morgan scoring and converting.
Tokirima was nearly over on several occasions, but good defensive play kept the score down. From a free kick Robinson scored a penalty goal. The pressure was kept up and a free kick to the home team brought the score to 13—9 in favour of Ohura. With only a few minutes to go two casualties occurred. On resuming Tokirima showed signs of tiring. Rather faulty work by the home full-back in running too far with the ball when closely pressed by the Ohura pack, let
the visitors over for another try which was converted. The final score was Ohura 18, Tokirima 9. The home team as a whole showed lack of form, but with training should develop into a very useful side. . Mr. R. Robinson was refwe®-
Personal. " Miss E. McCabe, who became ill suddenly, was taken to the Taumarunui hospital on Sunday morning. Mrs Hodgson, who has been the guest of Mrs French, left for her home at Wanganui on Friday .
