PUNGAREHU GENERAL NEWS
CATHOLIC DANCE WELL ATTENDED. The . Pungarehu hall was crowded for the Catholic dance and euchre -party on Friday night. Visitors were present from all districts from-Okato to Opunake. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Mrs. T. Harvey and Mr. S. Campe. Miss C. Brophy and Mrs. G. Julian won competitions. Messrs. T. Brophy and L. Beardmore were masters of ceremonies.
Euchre under the supervision of Messrs. J. Aylward and S. Jones was played in the supper-room during the early part of the evening. ,The winners were Mes-' dames Hibbert, J. Carey and R. P. Fleming and Mr. J. Hartie with Mr. B. Smith second in the men’s section. Results of the combined doubles tournament recently held at the Pungarehu courts to close the season were:— ' - First round: A. Roots and T. Gilhooley (owe 15) lost to W. Ngaia and Miss S. Gray (15), B. Brophy and M. Kufe (owe 15) defeated W. Priest and J, Niwa (owe 15), T. Kira and P. Okeroa (owe 15) defeated J. Armstrong and Mrs. Gray (15), J. Priest and N. Tyson (owe 30) lost to G. Pukehika and Miss M. Simmons (scr), J. Hunt and Miss P. Smith (30) lost to
T. Brophy and Miss C. Brophy (owe 15), T. Okeroa and Mrs. Priest' (15) lost to C. Kira and Miss M. Brophy (scr), L. - Beardmore and M. Lawn (scr> a bye. Second round: L. Beardmore and M. Lawn defeated W. Ngaia and Miss I. ! Gray, B. Brophy and M. Kufe lost to T. Kira and P. Okeroa, G. Pukehika and Miss M. Simmpns lost to C. Kira and Miss M. Brophy. ■, Final: T. Kira and P. Okeroa defeated L. Beardmore and Miss C. Brophy.
