Mrs Wicksteed is visiting Auckland and Rotorua.

Mrs Seddon is spending a holiday at Taihape. Mrs W. Harris has returned from a holiday visit to Auckland. Mrs Whitworth left by the Auckland express last night for a visit to Auckland, where she will farewell her aunt, Mrs Melton, who will leave on Tuesday by the Aorangi for a visit to England.

Miss Capel, Christchurch, has been the guest of her sister, Mrs H. Good.

Mrs S. Pitt was a bridge hostess on Monday night.

Mr and Miss Caplen and Mrs Hamilton, Hawera, were visitors to Stratford during the week. Mrs Nowell, Ngaere, returned during the week from a holiday spent in the Wairarapa and Wellington. Miss Joan Coleman is visiting Wellington and is the guest of Mrs Percy Thomson, Wadestown. Mrs Allison, Christchurch, is the guest of Mrs J. Cresswell. Mrs Turnbull has been spending a holiday at Auckland. Mrs Pollock has been holiday-making at Auckland.

Mrs H. Childs, who has been on holiday at Auckland, Rotorua and Hamilton, returned by the express on Monday.

Miss T. McCready has returned from a holiday spent at Napier. Mrs Urwin gave an enjoyable gift afternoon for Miss Grace North, who is to be married next Tuesday. Those present included Mesdames North, Fredric, Rutherfurd, G. Hall, T. King, R. Curtis, Misses A. Uniacke and M. Curd. ’

Mrs F. Jeffries was a bridge hostess on Tuesday afternoon. Those present were: _ Mesdames L. Jardine, J. Cresswell, A. Coleman, J. Spence, D. Malone, R. Curtis, Allison (Christchurch) and J. Fredric. Mrs A. Coleman entertained some friends at a delightful afternoon on Friday. Those present were Mesdames Allison (Christchurch), J. Cresswell, L. Jardine, D. Malone, M. Thorpe, D. McLean, F. Lyrer and E. B. Robertson.

Before her departure for America, several fellow members of the Avon Croquet Club made a presentation to Mrs W. Clark. Mrs Clark was presented with some dainty lingerie from the members. A large number of her friends gathered at the station to bid her bon voyage.

i An enjoyable time was spent at the residence of Mrs Beale on Monday evening, when a party was given in honour of the 21st birthday of Miss Betty Parker. An enjoyable evening was spent with games, competitions and dancing? Two competitions were won by Miss I. Schweiters and Miss V. Liddell. Those present were Misses L Schweiters, E. Sears, D. Thompson, V. Liddell, Molly Femmel, M. Smart, M. Phillips, Mona Femmel, M. Young, C. Pratt and M. Pratt.

An enjoyable time was spent at the residence of Mrs A. E. Moss on Tuesday afternoon, when Mrs 'McCready and Mrs Moss were joint hostesses at a gift afternoon for Miss Grace North. To receive the guests Mrs Moss wore a frock of brown lace and georgette, while Mrs McCready was attired in a frock of wine silk crepe trimmed with ecru lace. The guest of honour, Miss North, wore a becoming suit of green trimmed with white fur. After a delicious afternoon tea Miss North opened the numerous gifts and thanked those present. Mrs North also spoke and both were given musical honours. Those present were Miss North, Mesdames North, C. Moore, R. Macßae, Coldwell, J. Petrie (jnr.), A. Guthrie, Sole, Ross, W. Harris, T. R. Bourke (Eltham), Wisnewskie, P. Thomson, C. Lamplough, N. H. Moss, McLean, Misses D. Seddon and W. Harris. Competitions were won by Miss P. Thomson and Mrs McLean. The lady members of the Stratford Golf Club met at the links on Monday at an afternoon given in honour of Miss Grace North. Those present were Miss North, Mesdames North, McLean, P. Skoglund, A. Budge, C. Penn, S. Porrit, C. Williams. Seyb, Green, Mark, Knewstubbe, R. Fryday, H. Bishop, H. Graham, W. Boon, Sole, R. Curtis, K. Neal, J. Robson, B. Bellringer, Nolan, B. Armstrong, Newell, G. Carter, A. Yardley, McDonald, Harrison, J. Sullivan, N. H. Moss, Morey, L. Wynyard, Misses M. Whittle, F. Walker, Elsie and Edna Anderson, J. Henry, R. Furrie, O. Masters, M. Porrit and L. Penn. The club captain, Mrs R. Fryday, on behalf of those present, wished Miss North happiness and presented hex- with a bouquet and gift as a token of the esteem in which she was held. A fourball match was played, the winners being Mrs Bellringer and her partner, Mrs Knewstubb, after a play-off with Mrs Yardley and Mrs Harrison. Miss Nora O’Connor has returned home after a holiday at Wellington. Nurse Birss, Tangarakau, is spending a week in the public hospital. Mrs. Scanlon, Waipuku, entertained friends at her residence in honour of Mrs. McPhillips and family on the eve of their departure for their new home at Whakatane. Mrs. P. Thomson gave a farewell party last night in honour of Miss Grace North’s approaching marriage. Bridge was played by those present, who were Miss North, Mesdames North, Jolly. Fredric, Furrie, Curtis, McLean, McDonald, Hugo, C. Turner, N. Douglas. Members of the Central Taranaki group of the British Drama League and friends were entertained at the parish hall on Thursday night when three plays were read. Amongst those present were Mesdames Hussey, E. H. Young, D. Steven, Fredric, Furrie, W. Hall, Dick, Cleaver, Tyrer, N. Douglas, Uniacke, McCullough, Misses M. Curd, Z. Masters, M. Smart, Bremner, M. Wilson, P. Brown, R. Furrie, A. Uniacke, A. Jones.
