PUNGAREHU DISTRICT NEWS
• SUCCESSFUL TENNIS DANCE Despite other attractions the- tennis dance held in the Pungarehu hall on Friday night was well attended. Vinsen’s Ambassadors Orchestra supplied the music and extras were played by Miss M. Sole and Mr. N. Tyson. Messrs. T. Brophy and L. Beardmore were Masters of Ceremonies. During the evening Mr A. Roots, president of the Pungarehu Tennis Club, presented trophies -to the winners of the recent handicap tournaments. The winners of the events were: Ladies’ singles, Miss M. Simmons; men’s singles, Mr B. Brophy; combined doubles, Messrs. T. Okeroa and T. Kira. The dance marked the close of the tennis season. Basketball Club. The annual meeting of the Pungarehu Basketball club was held in the Pungarehu hall on Wednesday. The elect! oi; of officers resulted: President, Miss E. Gilhooly; secretaries, Misses I. Gray and C. Brophy; committee, Misses H. Doody, P. Brennan, L. Corbett, M. Hurly; delegates, Misses E. Gilhooly and C. Brophy. Owing to her intended departure from the district the resignation of Miss I. Gray has been accepted. Golf Club Opening. The official opening of the Cape Egmont Golf Club will be on Saturday. Many enthusiastic players are already at practice and the course is in very good condition. Personal. Mrs J. O'Meara, Wellington, is Staying with her mother, Mrs J. Fleming, Cape Road. ~ Mrs B. Doyle and Miss K. Aylward, Bayly Road, who have recently been staying in Hawera, have returned. Miss E. Woodd, Palmerston North, is staying for a few days at New Plymouth before returning home. Mr C. Moss and family are now living at Pungarehu. Miss K. Fleming, Feilding, is at present staying with relatives at Cape Road.
