THIEVES CAUSE DAMAGE
HAMMERS USED IN OFFICE. CHRISTCHURCH PREMISES ENTERED By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Thieves entered the premises of the State Coal depot in Moorhouse Avenue and the office of Collyer, Watson and So., exporters, Harper Street, on Wednesday afternoon and did a great deal of wanton damage. In the State Coal depot two sledge hammers found in the yard were used to smash the door and then split and smash fire desk drawers. The hands of a clock were torn off and another clock was filled with coal dust. Chalk messages were scribbled over the desks and walls. Weighing scales were smashed. The damage is estimated at from E2O to £3O. At the office of Collyer, Watson and Company the thieves used a heavy hammer to break the door. The sum of £4 was stolen.
