The Hon. R. Masters, Minister of Education, visited New Plymouth yesterday. Miss Muriel Grace has taken over the position of assistant clerk of the Taranaki County Council. Mr. A. J. Austin, manager at New Plymouth for the New Zealand Dairy Produce Board for the past six years, will leave for Wellington on promotion on Monday. He will be replaced •at New Plymouth by Mr. J. K. Hanning, of the Wellington office of the board. Mr. H. C. Sorenson, chairman of the Taranaki committees of the New Zealand Pig-Marketing Association, and a member of the North Taranaki Farmers’ Union executive, is resigning from all public bodies and will not in future take any active part in their administration. His reason, he told the Kaimata branch of the union last night, were family requirements. The death of the Rev. Francis Lyon Cohen, rabbi of the Great Synagogue, Sydney, president of the Jewish Ecclesiastical Court of New South Wales and senior Jewish chaplain to the Commonwealth military forces, is. reported by cable. He was regarded as a great authority on synagogue music and was prominently associated with public philanthropic activities. His age was 72 years.
