NEW PLYMOUTH TRACK

LITTLE FAST WORK DONE. WINDSCREEN’S FIVE FURLONGS. Conditions were not pleasant for the work at New Plymouth yesterday morning. The track was slow and a strong south-easterly wind, blowing right up the straight, made good times out of the question. All the galloping was done on the outside of the course proper. Gold Mission jumped off a length in front of Windsoreen at the five furlong post but the latter, displaying a fine turn of pace, soon took command and was three lengths clear at the turn. She was eased up over the last furlong and the pair finished on terms in Im.' Bs. Windsoreen ran the first three furlongs in 37Js. and fairly revelled in the damp track. Merry Way, looking bright and well, did solid pace work on .the inside. ' Orapai, Jacana and Count Lendroff commenced at the mile post to do a round at threequarter pace; Count Lendroff pulled hard and his rider let him bowl along. He soon opened up a break and was six lengths clear going down the back. Running on much better than he has previously he completed the mile in lm. 58s—a good effort in the conditions. The riders of Orapai and Jacana made no serious/attempt to chase him, being content to carry out their instructions for threequarter pace. Both hit out freely and finished strongly. Headmistress, alone, moved evenly over six furlongs in lm. 23Js.' She carried out her task in good style and was running on at the finish. Prince Colossus and Matorni took lm.2415. for the same distance. They both carried big weights and appeared to be going easily all the way. Matorni looks more solid since his racing at Feilding. Royal Reign, whose leg filled on Tuesday as a result of a knock when she was schooling, was given easy exercise on the inside. The swelling has gone down and no trouble is anticipated with the leg. Amyril was restricted to two rounds of half-pace work on the inside. EGMONT ACCEPTANCES TO-DAY.
