WAVERLEY ANZAC DAY
GOOD ATTENDANCE DESPITE RAIN. Considering the heavy showers of rain during the day the attendance at the Anzac Day service in the town hall at Waverley was good. There were many returned soldiers, boy scouts and Frontiersmen present. The Rey. H. C. Stuart conducted the service and the preacher was the Rev. S. R. Gardiner. Miss G. Beer was at the organ and the singing was led by a choir. « After the service wreaths were placed at the foot of the war memorial by the, returned soldiers and boy scouts.
Anzac-Day at Manaia. Afternoon tea was provided on Anzac Day at Manaia for returned soldiers, veterans, Manaia Brass Band, AuroaPipe Band, Auroa Boys’ Drum and. Fife Band and Legion .of Frontiersmen and xnew wives by Mrs. Cottom and ladies of the Methodist " guild. The hall, lighting, Town Board services and supper room were provided free-by the Manaia Town Board. The “Memoria.in Eterna” played by. the Manaia Band was composed by Mr. Joseph Cosgrove, brother of Mr. J. A; G. Cosgrove, Manaia. The Otakeho Girls Guides also took part in the service. > The Manaia Municipal Band played “Abide with Me” at the Octagon, also a number of marches after the ceremoney. . Requiem Mass, was celebrated at Manaia-for all the fallen at 9.30, the celebrant being the Rev. Father J. Butler. There was a good attendance. The Mass was sung by the Convent school pupils.
