Stop Press FORD PROVES SUPERIORITY him ■ irrrrr Police select V 8 Fords after gruelling competitive tests with other makes. The Los Angeles Police Department recently called tenders for 53 sedan cars, either sixes or eights. Each make tendering ered two ears to the police officials at the Legion Ascot .Speedway, the Los Angeles racing course having a 5-8 mile track. , The Police officials took entire charge of the cars. Results — Speed Test. From standing start; distance 5-8 mile—Times: Ford V 8 46sec., next 49sec., next 53sec. Upon crossing the finishing i line it was necessary to make | a braking test to determine i which car would pull up in the shortest distance. Although the Ford was travelling faster it was stopped in a shorter distance than its competitors. The drivers were then changed from one car to another until each driver had driven all the cars, an average was then taken, the results being J '.e same regardless of the driver.. a In the. pick up or aceelera- I tion test all cars were lined up at the starting line and upon firing a pistol there was a race to see which car would make the fastest getaway. On reaching the finishing ' point the Ford VB’s were in the lead of the second car by 75 feet and 125 feet ahead of the third car. ’ The distance was 300 yards. Again the drivers were rotated with the same results. In the fuel economy tests the Fords excelled. The tanks, were completely drained and a gallon of fuel . poured into each tank. Each car was paced by a motorcycle at 40 miles per hour and the cars run until the engines stopped. In the test for speed in low gear Fords out-performed all their competitors. The cars were then driven in Second Gear lap after lap to test the cooling systems and not only did the Ford cars lead their competitors but after eight or ten laps the radiators of the competitive makes were, steaming. After these tests it was quite conclusive to the Police official and Ford’s competitors that the V 8 Fords vere best adapted for the severe police work and the Los Angeles Ford Dealer received the order for 53 sedan cars. In fairness to Ford’s competitors no names have been mentioned but full particu- ■ lars regarding makes and performance for each make can be obtained from the i local Ford Dealers, H. DERBY & CO.
