EGMONT VILLAGE NEWS

SILVER WEDDING CELEBRATED. A surprise party of friends and relatives visited the residence of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Upson, Egmont Road, to celebrate their silver wedding. The earlier part of the evening was spent playing euchre, Mrs. A. Hill winning the ladies’ first prize and Miss I. Upson the second prize, while Messrs. Cole and E. Upson were respectively first and second in the men’s competition. Consolation prizes were won by Mrs. S. Wareham and Mr. G. Upson. Other competitions were won by Miss I. Gyde, Mr. B. Eaves, Opunake, Mrs.' G. Rasmussen, Kina Road, Miss I. Upson,.Mr. G. Upssn and Mr. Adamson, while a travelling prize was won by Miss J. Thomason and Mr. A. Upson. A mystery parcel went to Miss L. Riley, Normanby. Dancing was then enjoyed. Two Monte Carlo waltzes were won'by Miss I. Gyde and Mr/J. Riley, and Miss I. Gyde and Mr. A. Upson. The supper tables were tastefully decorated with chrysanthemums, zinnias and carnations, and a two-tier cake graced the centre table over which was suspended a wedding-bell. Mrs. Upson was presented with a bouquet by Loma Adamson. The toast of the “Bride and Bridegroom” was honoured and Mr. F. Upson suitably responded. On behalf of the gathering Mr. O. Riley then presented Mr. and Mrs. Upson with a fire-kerb. Personal. Miss E. Upson has returned to her home after a holiday spent at Normanby. Miss Foster, Hawera, is spending holiday with Mrs. A. Morton. Mrs. and Miss Joyce Keenan, Hamilton, spent the week-end with Mrs. G. Marsh. Mr. F. Upson is spending a few days with friends at Bell Block.
