AUCKLAND BOWLERS’ VISIT
MATCHES PLAYED AT AVON GREEN. CENTRAL TARANAKI CLUBS LOSE. Although the Avon green was slightly holding for the morning’s play, it improved for the afternoon games against the touring team of Auckland bowlers. Auckland in the morning won matches against the Tariki, Avon and Stratford clubs with ease. Owing to the Stratford club’s green being closed for the season all games were played at Avon. Messrs R. H. White (Avon), W. G. Liddell (Stratford), H. Rumball (Tariki) and A. H. R. Amess (Taranaki centre) extended welcomes to the visitors, Mr. .A. E. Whitten, manager of the touring team, suitably replying. Details of play are:— MORNING. (Auckland Versus Tariki.) T A Kerr, Humphries, Hucker, Rumball (s) 19 — Oughton, M. KING’S THEATRE, STRATFORD. “DOCTOR BULL.” “Doctor Bull,” which was adapted from “The Last Adam,” the successful novel by James Gould Cozzens, will commence at the King’s Theatre, Stratford, to-morrow, and is said to present Rogers in his most fitting role—that of a philosophic village doctor. Through the eyes of the doctor one sees the joys and sorrows of an entire New England community. Dr. Bull has time for everything—even for courting a widow. But first he has to solve the romantic problems of some of his ; ounger clients, one of whom happens to be the daughter of the town’s capitalist. It is a great story, and John Ford has brought it to the screen with a fine feeling for the human drama latent in every life. In doing this he has the artistic co-operation of a splendid cast of supporting actors, including Vera Allen, Marian Nixon, Howard Lally, Berton Churchill, Louise Dresser, Andy Devine, Rochelle Hudson and Tempe Pigott.
