TAMPERING WITH EVIDENCE

CHARGES IN HOUSE OF COMMONS. CONSTITUTION OF THE COMMITTEE. (British Official Wireless). Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, April 17. The Committee of Privileges which has been summoned to examine charges that attempts were made to tamper with the evidence tendered by the Manchester Chamber of Commerce to the joint select committee on Indian reform Will meet on Thursday. The Committee of Privileges is not an ad hoc body appointed to consider a specific complaint but a committee consisting of ten members elected by the House of Commons at the beginning, of each session and representing all parties. The committee settles its own procedure and has the power to call for witnesses and papers. It Is assumed that the principal witnesses will be Sir Samuel Hoare, Mr. Winston Churchill and Mr. S. S. Hammersley, a Lancashire member of Parliament.

It is understood meetings of the joint select committee on Indian reform will not be delayed by the proceedings before the Committee of Privileges.
