INVERCARGILL BOXING MATCH. ONE OF THE BEST EVER STAGED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. The Southland Boxing Association staged two professional contests to-night in the Civic Theatre, which was packed. Ray Nicol (Ohai), 12st. 11b., defeated Harry Lister (Greymouth), list. 51b., on points in a ten-round contest. The bout was full of action and was voted one of the best fights ever staged at Invercargill. Lister sent Nicol down for two in the first round with a left swing to the jaw. Maurice Strickland (Wellington), 12st. 71b., won on a technical knock-out in the fifth round against Billy Sullivan (Hastings), 12st. 81b. Strickland was much too good for Sullivan.
