SUCCESSFUL FANCY DRESS DANCE. BASKETBALL CLUB MEETS. An enjoyable evening was spent by many Mahoenui residents last Saturday, when a masked fancy dress dance was held in aid of the hall. The hall fund will benefit considerably. Mrs. Meredith, Miss Watson and Mr. W. Avery were judges of the “costumes, and after the grand march the following prizes were awarded: Best lady’s costume, Miss M. Roberts (Eastern Princess); most comical lady’s costume, Miss A. Purdie (Grandfather); best gentleman’s costume, Mr. G. Tubman (Chinaman), most comical gentleman’s costume, Mr. H. Freeman (Lady). During the evening there were several novelty dances, the winners being Miss Roberts, Mr. B. Rattenbury, Mrs. Meredith and Mr. Fetzer, Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Rattenbury. The masters of ceremony were Messrs. S. Roberts and J. Tubman. The annual meeting of the basketball club was held during the week-end. Miss M. Roberts presided over a good attendance. Miss J. Rattenbury was elected secretary, Miss Worboys having resigned because of her approaching marriage. Mrs. J. Old was elected gaiawp.

Mrs. A. H. Rattenbury president, and Mesdames Avery, Davidson, A. C. Moir and E. Rattenbury vice-presidents. Miss O. Abraham was re-appointed club captain. Mrs. R. Old and Miss Roberts were appointed delegates. It was decided to hold a dance next Saturday. The tar-sealing of four miles of main road through Mahoenui is rapidly progressing, a mile being already completed. (Personal. Miss Tate, Waitara, is the guest of Mrs. A. Old. •! Miss Watson, Pio Pio, is visiting Mrs. O’Malley. Miss Betty Moir is on holiday at Alton. Miss Fetzer was the guest of Mrs. O’Malley, during the week-end..

Mrs. Gribbon is still ill in the New Plymouth hospital. Miss V. Old has left for Te Awamutu. Mr. and Mrs. J. Old motored to Otorohanga for the week-end, where they were the guests of Mrs. T. Davidson. Miss A. Purdie, Waitara, is visiting Mrs. Roberts.
