HAWERA POULTRY SHOW

ANNUAL YOUNG BiIRD EVENT BIG INCREASE IN ENTRIES. CANARY SECTION A RECORD. There were particularly good entries in the canary section at the Hawera Poultry Society’s annual young bird show which was held yesterday. All sections showed increased entries and the birds were favourably commented on by the judge, Mr. A. C. Johnstone, Auroa. Mr. A. R. Watson and the committee successfully organised the show. H. McNeill’s (New Plymouth) game bantam pullet was adjudged the best bird in the show. It also won the Gardner trophy for best bird in the fancy section. G. C. Harding won the opposite sex prize in the fancy section. Other special prizes were won as follow: Swadling bowl, for best bird in the utility section, Mrs. F. E. Warren; opposite sex, W. E. Jones (Stratford); best utility section bird belonging to member of the Hawera Egt. Circle, E. G. Harrison (Normanby); second Egg Circle pullet, A. R. Watson (Hawera); best canary, Mrs. A. Kearns (Hawera); best Norwich canary, Mrs. V. E. Bryant; best cage bird other than canary, H. J. Hall (New Plymouth). The winners of special prizes in the children’s section were: Best bantam, Bruce Harding; opposite sex bantam, Amorell Muggeridge; best other than bantam, Beverley Watson; opposite sex, E. Barker. G. Simpson; secretary, Miss M. Quin; treasurer, Mr. G. Chuck; committee, Misses C. Reilly and E. Earle, Mrs. R. F. Page, Messrs. C. Harrison and W. S. Gibson. It was decided to hold a festival early in September. Miss Helen Gardiner, Wellington, will be the adjudicator.
