PLUNKET WORK AT PATEA.

INTERESTING ADDRESS GIVEN. “It was an important part of the society’s work to bring mothers together to hear speakers with practical knowledge of mothercraft,” the president of the Patea Plunket Society, Mrs. R. W. Haddow, stated in welcoming 70 mothers and members to an evening on Tuesday. The occasion was the third lecture evening organised at Patea during the past 12 months, the speaker, Miss Dawes, act-ing-Matron of the Stewart Karitane home, dealing with the case of the premature baby. No less than 100 premature babies had been received at the home in the past four years, the speaker stated, of whom only nine had failed to live. The others, as the result of care and diet, had grown to normal, healthy children. Simple methods that could be imitated successfully by mothers in their own homes had been employed. These methods were described in detail by Miss Dawes, who completed her discourse with a description of the training of Karitane nurses, and answered a number of questions.

Songs were sung by Mrs. J. A. Jones and Miss O. Adams.
