EAST COMMITTEE’S ADVANCE. TOLLS REACH A RECORD TOTAL. From £l9 in 1926 to £331 in 1933-34 is the remarkable increase in toll fees collected by the East Committee of the Egmont National Park Board, showing the success that has attended the long struggle of the committee to establish the Stratford resort on east Egmont and to build an all-weather motor road not only to it but for two and a half miles beyond to the Stratford Plateau. The fees increased to £2B in 1927 and £lO9 in 1928. The road was then closed for widening and formation work and the figures were £lO3 in 1929 and £72 in 1930 but after that year the increases were substantial every year and rose from £156 in 1931 to £331 for the year ended March 31 last.

COMING OF AGE CELEBRATED. EVENING HELD AT WAIPUKU. A party to celebrate the coming of age of their son, Laurie, was given by Mr. and Mrs. J. Fryday, Waipuku.- There were 200 guests present and the evening was spent in dancing interspersed with musical items. Miss Jean Harkness gave a Scottish dance, and Mr. Inderbitzen (Inglewood) yodelling songs. After supper several toasts were honoured. Mr. P. G. Harkness congratulated the guest of honour on attaining his majority. The toast of the parents was proposed by Mr. H. Graham. Mr. H. Sheilds (Ohakune) proposed the toast of the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Mischewski, Stratford. Mr. Mischewski replied. Mr. Harris, on behalf of Mr. Fryday’s fellow wrestlers, extended congratulations and referred to his success as a wrestler. Mr. Anchor (New Plymouth) responded. A birthday cake was made by Mrs. Fryday and iced by Mr. C. Ford. The gymnasium, in which the dances were held, was decorated with ponga fem, balloons and Chinese lanterns. Dance music was supplied by Misses Howard (3) and Mr. Voght and. Mrs. Castelli, Mr. :P. Mischewski and Mr. C. C. Phillips.

LADIES’ HOCKEY CONTEST. EVENT AT OPUNAKE TO-DAY. To aid the Plunket candidate in the Opunake beach carnival a ladies’ seven-a-side hockey contest will be held at the Opunake domain to-day. The winners will receive seven silver cups, which will be presented at the movie ball on Friday. Eight teams have entered and the games will commence at 2 p.m. The draw is: Opunake v. Auroa, Pihama V. Manaia B, Manaia A y. Otakeho, Oto v. Star,
