RELIEF OF DISTRESS IN TOWN. A meeting called by the distress committee was held on Monday afternoon in the Inglewood council chambers to discuss ways and means of raising funds for the Mayor’s unemployment fund. It was unanimously decided to hold a mart and a dance.
Mrs. J. Gibbs (Mayoress), Messrs. R. Brown (schoolmaster), J. Ross (town clerk), H. Carter (Friendly Societies), G. C. Tait (R.S.A.), J. Burnip (Municipal Band), the Rev. K. S. Keenan (Ministers’ Association) and Mr. N. G. Crossman (Taranaki Regiment) were present at a meeting on Monday afternoon which made complete arrangements for the Anzac Day service. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Mr. Blight The Inglewood Volunteer Fire Brigade will take an active part in ‘Tire Prevention Week,” which commenced last Monday. On Thursday the brigade will visit the schools where short lectures will be given and fire drill held in conjunction with a demonstration by the brigade. The brigade has donated a small sum to the schools to be awarded as prizes for the best essays on fire prevention. The brigade will give a demonstration of fire prevention methods in the town and the fire station will ba open for inspection.
