“If whey butter were prevented from being shipped Home would the restriction required by a quota be satisfied and the prestige of the New Zealand product be increased?” was an inquiry made by Mr. W. Morrison, speaking at the monthly meeting of the Wanganui executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union on Wednesday. He asked Mr. B. Dawes for his opinion on the matter. Mr. Dawes' confessed that he could not tell the amount of whey butter manufactured in New Zealand at the present time, but he knew that it did not compete with the ordinary creamery butter. It was sold through one firm on the definite understanding that it was to be used only for pastry. Its export was limited by the Dairy Control Board. Mr. Dawes said that the position as to quotas was uncertain at the moment. Much depended on the Milk Board in England. It was not definite that the Milk Board was going to be a permanent body, and it was understood that there was considerable friction among the British farmers concerning it. 1
