PRINCESS ELIZABETH
AN EARLY FAVOURITE. Princess Elizabeth narrowly escaped being mobbed by an admiring crowd which gathered outside the Cambridge Theatre, where she attended her first play, states the Daily' Telegraph. The Royal car, in which were the Duchess of York and the little Princess,-' drove up and stopped at the- main en- '- trance of the theatre, where- a crowd of men and women had been waiting for more than an hour to greet them. ' The chauffeur, however, was told to drive on to a private door at the side of the theatre. As the car moved off the crowd made frantic efforts to follow . it, but policemen also hurried round to the door and were just in time to prevent them pressing too closely on the Royal car. . , . : The little Princess, wearing a red coat over her red frock and no hat on her bright curls,- gave a skip. °f exfitement as she went into the theatre. On her arrival she was presented with a box of chocolates .apd a posy by little Suzanne, daughter of Mrs. Warren Pearl. ( - The -play—“ Ever So. Long Ago,” by Laura Wilding and Marcus Magill—was’ presented in aid of the St. Jclins Clipic and Institute of Physical Medicine. It is a cheerful melange of fairies, “bogles," enchanted princesses, wizards, and spells, and anirpals that talk- There is plpagant incidental music by Messrs. Temple. Abady and Tony Lowry,’ and some charming , ballets arranged by Dorice Stainer. , Princess Elizabeth gazed entranced—part of the play was about another golden-haired Princess not . so. very much older than herself. She chuckled with delight when the king, having eaten a magic plum, appealed' with a nose Bft. < long, and when the three-headed ogre was killed by the hero sfie applauded as loudly as any' of the other children present. . . Over 30 little children dressed in ivory and scarlet carried round of sweets during the interval, and business was decidedly brisk among the four and nve-year-olds. ' ”’ ’ • >
