NEW ZEALAND ROMNEY WOOL

TRIBUTE FROM OVERSEAS. “FAULTLESS QUALITY.” Wanganui, March 28. “We have carefully examined these wools, and are very pleased with them. They are sound in staple, handle nicely, and.are well bred.” This comment was contained in a letter ftom Messrs. F. A. Aykroyd < and Co., Ltd., of Bradford, British wool manufacturers, and sighed by Sir Frederick Aykroyd himself. It referred to wool grown by Mr. J.R. Franklin, of Wanganui, and for the purpose of information the letter was read at to-day’s meeting of the Wanganui provincial executive of the Union. “That comes from a who practically condemned, our Romney wool,” said Mr. J. McL. Blair. He added that buyers of two lots of wool at the January sale at Wanganui this year had been asked to obtain criticism from Messrs, and Co., whose letter added that, in the opinion of that .firm, the wools were such that nobody could find fault with them. “A very close examination shows a few shiny hairs which could easily increase in quantity if breeding With the same ram were to be pursued for two or three seasons,” the letter proceeded. “But for this season’s produce and taking the wools as they now are, the most particular buyer would be satisfied.” “I think that is a remarkable tribute, coming as it does from a man who has strongly criticised New Zealand Romney weol,” remarked Mr. Blair. Mr. J. R. Franklin: Last spring reports came from Bradford practically condemning Romney wool. I decided it would be a good idea to try and get an unbiassed opinion from manufacturers to find out what was wrong with the wool. I maintain that if you cull and breed Romney wool there will not be much fault found with it. The president (Mr. T. Currie): This letter is the very best answer that can be given to the objections.
