MERITORIOUS MARKSMANSHIP. CONTESTS BETWEEN WARSHIPS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Some excellent scores were made at the first day of the naval squadron rifle meeting being fired at Trentham. They were all the more meritorious when it is taken into consideration that they are being fired under active service conditions—that is the marksman are prohibited from using the slight cr aperture sights. The results are:— 200 yards match: Graham Cameron (H.M.S. Dunedin) 35 (possible), Hardcastle (Diomede) 34, Walford (Dunedin) 34, J. Moore (Dunedin) 34, Saltiel (R.N.V.R.) 34. n 300 yards match: Saunders (Philomel) 32, Williams (Dunedin) 32, Stent (Diomede) 32, Green (Diomede) 31. Teams’ match: Diomede 33, Philome. 31, Diomede B 26. , 300 yards match: Lieut. Walford (Dunedin) 43, Green (DiomedeF 42, Ferrin (Philomel) 41, Gardner (R.N.V.KJ 40. Lewis gun teams competition: Dunedin D 161, Diomede C 118. March 500 yards: Marine Hicks (Dunedin) 35, Lamb (Dunedin) 33, Lieut. Harding (R.N.V.R.) 31.
