SUB-UNION RUGBY FOOTBALL
WAIROA’S SUCCESSFUL SEASON. The Wairoa Rugby Football Sub-Union annual meeting was held on Monday and was presided over by Mr. D. Forsyth. The report showed a credit balance of £24 9s 7d. Six teams competed last season and Waverley won the competition, going through the season without losing a game. Some of the later games were abandoned owing to players not being available. This position would be remedied this season by the Rauru club linking up with the Waitotara club. The Ngutuwera team, newcomers to the union, did very well. Of nine games the club won three and drew two. Kohi won the senior school banner and Waverley Convent school won the junior. A Wairoa representative . team drew with a Wanganui B representative team. The Native, fifteen visited Marton and played the Rangitikei Natives for the Whenuaroa Shield, which was won by 9 points to 8. J. McClenaghan and H. Walker were selected to play for the Wanganui representatives during the season. Officers elected were: Patron: Mr. JMills; president, Mr. D. Forsyth; vicepresidents, Messrs. Stewart, Symes and Francis; secretary and treasurer, Mr. Armstrong; auditor, Mr. W. Simpson; committee, Messrs. Blackie, McGlade, Dallison, Laird, Sullivan, Bennett and Verry. ' Tire Waverley club was granted permission to enter a team in the metropolitan union’s competition under certain conditions. Several Waverley players were of the opinion that it would be in the best interest of the club to enter one team in Wanganui with the object of improving the standard of play generally. One team is also to be a competitor in the Wairoa Sub-Union competition.
