AVERAGE ATTENDANCE OVER 465. ACTIVITIES OF SCOUTS AND CUBS. The Fitzroy school committee met last night There were present Messrs.'J. A. Burr (chairman), C. Cook, C. Voullaire, W. R. McKenzie, R. Robb, R. Milne and E. Armitage (hon. secretary). The average attendance for the month was 465.6, reported the headmaster, Mr. G. A. Lyall. Fifteen pupils were admitted and nine withdrawn. The present roll number was 481. Miss Comey returned to duty after a month’s leave of absence. Repairs had been carried out by the Education Board. The Director of Education (Mr. N. T. Lamboume), accompanied by the chief inspector and members of the Education Board, had visited the school. Among other matters, the inadequate accommodation in the headmaster’s office was pointed out. The school was represented by 100 entries at the North Taranaki primary , school sports. The Education Board is to be requested to provide adequate accommodation in the headmaster’s office. The board is also to be asked to repaper the walls in the teachers’ common room in the concrete school. Messrs. Burr and Milne were appointed a visiting committee. Prior to the school committee meeting, members met as the No. 3 Scout .troop committee. Messrs. J. Hopkins (actingScoutmaster) and L. Taylor (assistantScoutmaster) attended) The attendances had been 5,9, 10 and 15 for the meetings during the month, Mr. Hopkins reported. On account of the small attendances it had been decided to alter the meeting nights from Tuesdays to Fridays so that High School boys could attend. Nine Scouts had attended the first parade on March 9. One new boy joined. The troop had been represented in the guard of honour to Lord Bledisloe, New Zealand’s Chief Scout, at St. Mary’s Church. The Cubmistress, Miss A. Duckworth, reported an average attendance of 13.2 during the month. Three new boys had. joined. Two Cubs had gained their tenderpads and three their first-class badge* Miss Elsie Burr had consented to act as assistant to the pack. It was resolved to recommend Mr. Hopkins for a bar to his long-service medaL Mr. Hopkins, it was stated, had completed 15 years’ service as a Scoutmaster in August last year. The two Scout-patrol leaders and th* two seconds were granted permission to attend a camp at Waiwakaiho at Easter. A sum of money was granted the Cubmaster for the purchase of semaphar* flags. Mr. Lyall’s resignation from the Scout committee was accepted with regret.
