ALLOTTED NUMBER PLATES
NEW PLYMOUTH MOTOR VEHICLES. 47-901 TO 55-900 AND 8801 TO 10-600. New Plymouth has been allotted numbers 47-901 to 55-900 for its number plates for private cars this year and 8801 to 10- for motor-cycles. There are no six figure plates as was the case last year, there will be no six figure plates, and the initial letter X will be used for all plates that would otherwise bear six figures. The new number plates will have white figures on a blue background. They must not be affixed to vehicles before June 1. Other North Island numbers for private cars are: Auckland 301 to 23-000; Wellington 69-801 to 83-900; Wanganui 55-901 to 61-400; Hamilton 27-501 to 37-500; Napier 44-101 to 47-900; Palmerston North 61-401 to 69-800; Thames 23-001 to 27-500; Gisborne 37-501 to 41-100. Motor-cycles: Auckland 1 to 4800; Wanganui 10-601 to 11-500; Hamilton 5601 to *7300; Palmerston North 11- to 12-700! Napier 7801 to 8800; Gisborpe 7301 to 7800; Thames 4801 to 560 J.
Christchurch, Timaru, Oamaru, Dunedin and Invercargill alone have, the plates with the initial letter X from 1 to 31-000. The highest number allotted is 99-500, which falls to Christchurch. Plates for public passenger vehicles (other than rental and private hire cars) will bear the initial letters, according to type, of P, T, S and V and commercial vehicles’ number plates will be distinguished by the initial letters L and H.
