“IRRITATION TACTICS”
WATERSIDERS DISSATISFIED. WATERFRONT AT WELLINGTON. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, March 22. A shipping official stated to-day that irritation tactics have been practised on the Wellington waterfront for some time, the men having refused on occasions to work certain ships at night. There had been no word of a strike at Wellington, but certainly there was a feeling of dissatisfaction among the watersiders regarding conditions of work. It is reported that some of the underlying causes of the present tactics.are the result of previous hold-ups not being settled to the satisfaction of all the men. As a mark of respect to a watersider, Mr. A. E. Davis, who died of injuries received on a wharf, no work was done by watersiders at Wellington this afternoon. Several hundreds attended the funeral at the Soldiers’ Cemetery. Some overseas ships were delayed.
