CHANGE AT NEW PLYMOUTH. REARRANGEMENT OF STAFFS. __i By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, March 22. The Union Company announces the following staff appointments as having been made at the head office: Mr. J. W. Matthewson, to be assistant general manager, and Mr. C. B. V. Wheeler to be general traffic manager. Consequent on the retirement of Mr. D. Carter,'branch manager at Auckland, on superannuation as from April 30, the following changes have also been announced; Mr. J. N. Greenland, branch manager at Christchurch, to be branch manager at Auckland; Mr. A. R. Thompson, branch manager at New Plymouth, to be branch manager at Christchurch; Mr. W. G. Mander, branch manager at Tirnaru, to be branch manager at New Plymouth; Mr. H. H. Dobie, officer in charge at Blenheim, to be branch manager at Tirnaru; Mr. L. L. Derbidge, Christchurch branch, to be officer in charge at Blenheim.

Mr. Thomson, who has been manager of the New Plymouth office for nine yearsj has taken an interest in. various local institutions, including the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce. ■ When the war broke out he was cashier in the company’s office at Auckland, and after being demobilised he was appointed purser on the Niagara on the Vancouver run. Mr. Mander, who is to succeed Mr. Thomson, is h brother of Mr. L. J. Mander, manager of the New Zealand Farmers’ Fertiliser Company at New Plymouth. He was educated at New Plymouth, where he attended the Boys’ High School and commenced work in the office of the Union Steam Ship Company about 1908. Three years later he left New Plymouth to become a purser, a position he occupied on several ships runs. Leaving with the Fifth’ Reinforcement, he saw service in Egypt and France until the conclusion of the war. After his return to New Zealand in 1918 he was appointed manager for the Union Steam Ship Company at Rarotonga, and three years later he was promoted to a similar position at Suva. After being at Suva 12 years he was appointed manager at Tirnaru 18 months ago.
