RATAPIKO DISTRICT NEWS
POPULAR RESIDENTS FAREWELLED. An enjoyable evening was spent in the Ratapiko Hall on Friday night, when a farewell was tendered Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Martin and their family. Mr. and Mrs. Martin have been prominent in Ratapiko activities and have helped many clubs and organisations. Mr. Martin has been president of the tennis club since formation. Mr. Martin was also chairman of the school committee. During the year Mr. Harry Martin has been secretary of the Ratapiko Sports Club. Mrs. Martin has been prominent in the local W.D.F.U., of which she was secretary. Mr. Austin Gannaway, on behalf of the residents of the district, presented Mrs. Martin with a silver entree dish, and Mr. Martin with a silver-mounted tobacco pouch. Books were presented to Miss Kathleen Martin, Mr. Archie Martin and Mr. Harry Martin. Bouquets, made by Miss Rewa Stevens, were presented Mrs. Martin and Kathleen Martin by Margaret Gannaway. Mr. Martin returned thanks. He said that his family were all sorry to be leaving Ratapiko. Mrs. Martin, Archie and Harry also thanked those present for the honour done them. Mr. B. Bellringer and Mr. H. Martin contributed songs and elocutionary items. Dance music was supplied by Mrs. James, Mr. and Mrs. Hall and Mr. D. Therkleson. Mr. Fred Hill was master of ceremonies, Personal Items. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Martin and family left on Tuesday for Awakino. Miss Doris Tilley, Wanganui, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. B. Dust. Mr. and Mrs. W. Wickham, Makara Road, will return on Saturday. Mrs. S. Martin has been staying with relations in New Plymouth. At the tennis club meeting, Mr. Jack .Lepper was elected president and Mr. Roy Therkleson captain.
