TRAGEDY OF SHIP AT SEA
SURVIVORS OF THE OSCAR EDU. British Wireless. Rugby, March 17. The British tanker Inverarder yesterday landed at Queenstown five survivors of the Belgian steamer Oscar Edu. The captain and six other members of the crew were drowned within sight of rescue. The Oscar Edu sank on Thursday morning, and the men took to the boats in heavy seas. They burned their last flares and attracted the attention of the Inverarder before dark yesterday. Two ladders were dropped oyer the tanker’s side, but the small boat capsized, throwing its occupants into the water. Ropes were lowered, but only five men were saved, the others being swept away in the huge waves.
