Freezing works in Otago and Southland are working only part time at present on account of the slackness in lamb killing, which it is anticipated will continue for another ten days or so* before the supply to the works becomes normal. Recent wet weather will also probably have the effect of delaying the finishing off of lambs for the works. In the. eastern district the reduction of supplies at the present time is proportionately greater than in other parts of Southland. Mr. A. Derbie, manager of the Southland Frozen Meat and Produce Export Company Ltd., has stated that the total number of lambs handled at the company’s works up to the end of February was about 32,000 greater than for the. corresponding period of last season, this increase being approximately equal to the quantity handled in December, the works having opened about a month earlier this
