NEW FARM PEST DISCOVERED

“WIRE FLY” IN INGLEWOOD AREA.

LIVING ON GALVANISED WIRE.

A new pest to farmers is making its appearance in the Inglewood district, in the fomi of' an insect termed a wire fly. It is somewhat the . shape of the ordinary house fly, but about one-third its size. It attaches itself to the galvanised wire on the fences (plain wire for preference) and seemingly lives on the galvanising that is on the wire. After it has finished its depredations it moves further along the wire, leaving it quite smooth and black, which no doubt will soon rust.

The fly appears to remain in a sort of stupor on the wire anad does not move when touched.
