PLAYING GROUND AT HAWERA

FOOTBALL CLUB’S DISCUSSION. The position as regards Rugby grounds at Hawera was briefly discussed at the Hawera club’s annual meeting last night. The delegates were left with a free hand at the annual meeting of the Taranaki Rugby Union. Mr. J. B. Rowe said the union had done its best to make an agreement with the A. and P. Association, offering 15 per cent, of the gate with an £BO minimum. The association’s offer was a 21year lease at £lOO. Mr. N. Hunter asked if there had not been some suggestion of a lump sum. Mr, Rowe. said £lOOO. had been suggested, the union to have playing rights for ever.. This was suggested by some members of the association, but that body would not agree to it. He would not like to see the Hawera clubs play on Bayly Park. The club had spent over £2OO in improving the showgrounds. Mr. Hunter said football left Bayly Park in 1907 because it was too small.
