WIDESPREAD MINOR DAMAGE DONE TWO PERSONS DIE FROM SHOCK BUILDINGS SUFFER IN MANY. TOWNS WIDESPREAD damage, mostly of a minor nature, is reported from most towns in the southern part of the North Island as the result of the earthquake which occurred shortly beiore midnight yesterday. Balconies, chimneys, brick walls, shop windows-and fragile stocks suffered extensively over a wide area in the northern Wellington district and Hawkes Bay. Roads and railways suffered some damage. Though no personal injuries were caused by the earthquake," two tragic, incidents occurred. At Grey town a woman who had suffered heart trouble collapsed and died, and at Pahiatua - a business man endeavouring to escape from his rocking, building succumbed from shock.
