FAREWELL AT AWAKINO
MR. AND MRS. KELLY LEAVE. A large and representative gathering of settlers in the Waikawau hall on Saturday evening farewelled Mr. and Mrs. H. Kelly, very old settlers of the district, who ape leaving shortly to reside at New Plymouth, Mr. N. Ordish presided, and in presenting Mr. Kelly with a gold inscribed watch and Mr?. Kelly with a toilet set voiced the regret of the gettlers at the loss of Mr, and Mrs. Kelly. Mr. Kelly suitably replied. Music for the dance which followed was supplied by Mrs. McNeice, and Mr. L- Brvant, extras being played by Mrs. Soundy, Mr. F. King and the Maori orchestra. .Several novelty dances added to streamer and confetti dances helped with the gaiety of the evening.
Tennis Party. A delightful termis party was given by Mr. and Mrs. G. Richards, “Taumata Maipe,” on Saturday afternoon, when a number of guests enjoyed tennis and walking about the grounds, which are beautifully situated for out-door parties. At the annual meeting of the Legion of Frontiersmen recently the officers elected were Mr- J* Hatton (troop-leader) and Mr. A. Keay (secretary). A combined euchre party and dance in aid of school funds was held in the Awakino hall on Friday evening, -when a large number attended. Mrs. J. McNeice and Mr. L. Bryant provided the dance music, assisted by Mr. R. Corgan. Mr. L. Bryant was master of ceremonies. A novelty Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss L. Broderick and Mr. H. Bryant,
Personal Notes. Miss F. Northern returned from Auckland on Monday. Miss J. Murray, Uruti, was the guest of Mrs. Keith Black during the week. Miss F. King has returned from Raetihi. Mrs. L. R. Jones and Mrs. H. Gray motored to New Plymouth for the weekend. Mr. J. Renwick, New Plymouth, was the guegt of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Blaek last week. Mrs. W. L. Smith, Tongapurutu, is the guest of Mrs. J. McNeice. Miss E. Cowper is in the Hamilton Hospital. z
