£4O DAMAGES AT CHRISTCHURCH.
MALICIOUS LETTER WRITTEN.
By Telegraph—Press Association. < Christchurch, Last Night. Charles Seymour Trillo, proprietor of Gold Band taxis, was defendant m a libel action heard before Mr. H. A. Young, .S.M., in the civil court this morning when the city traffic inspector, J. Bourke, claimed £75 damages, alleging that Trillo in a letter to the chairman of the by-laws committee of the Christchurch City Council on December 19 charged him with , being guilty of perjury and gross misconduct in the discharge of his duties and with acting unjustifiably and discreditably. The case was a sequel to. the prosecution of a Gold Band taxi-driver for a traffic breach. The magistrate after hearing the evidence said there was no doubt the statements complained of were untrue and were maliciously made, It was necessary that Bourke be reimbursed for all possible expenses incurred in defending his character. Judgment was for £4O with costs.
