TALLOW AND HEMP STEADY. APPLES AND PEARS. I The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated March 3, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow: Market quiet but steady at about last quotations." Hemp:—Manila: Market quiet but slightly easier. Closing values “K” grade £l4 ss. Sisal: Steady demand with prices firmer. No. 1 grade for March-May shipment sold at £l7; for April-June shipment £l7 2s 6d. New Zealand: Market quiet but steady, with no first-hand sales reported.
Apples: Heavier supplies on market Values for boxes weaker, but barrels firmer. Oregon Newtowns, 9s 6d to 13s; British Columbia Newtowns, Ils to 13s; American Winesap, 9s to 10s 6d; British Columbia Winesap, 8s 6d to 10s; British Columbia Delicious, 10s 6d to 10s 9d.
Pears: Supplies increasing and prices steady; demand active. South African. Williams, 9s 6d to 12s; Beuree Bose pears 12s to 14s. •
Peas: Maples: Spot market is dragging: Tasmanian values 45s to 475; poor demand for forward shipments. Tasmanian for March-April shipment sold at 42s 6d. New Zealand: Sellers asking 41s 6d, buyers’ ideas 40s. Blues: Poor demand. Tasmanian afloat offered £l2; and March-April shipment £ll 15s. New Zealand: Not offered.
