PUNGAREHU ACTIVITIES
SUCCESS OF CATHOLIC DANCE. There was a splendid attendance at the Catholic dance on Thursday in the Pungarehu Hall. Many visitors were present from the surrounding districts. Music was played by Misses E. Gilhooly and F. Julian, with extras by Mr. W. Tyson. Messrs T. Brophy and A. Newport were masters of ceremonies. There were 24 tables at euchre. The prizes were won by Mrs. Brbich, Misses L. Sole, D. Ngaia and P. Williams, who tied for first place, Mr. J. Keogh 1, Messrs M. Lawn and F. Riddell 2 equal. Among those present were Mesdames A. Tennis Activities.
• A one-life handicap tournament is being played on the Pungarehu tennis courts. Trophies will be presented to the winners. All players are to make their own arrangements for play and provision of umpires. The first round is to be completed by March 11, The games are being played on points, men up to 61 and ladies 41. Miss P. Stempa returned to her home at Masterton during the week-end. ■■ Miss M. Beechan, Hawke’s Bay, is the guest of Miss M. Brophy. Miss D. Good has returned to Okaiawa. The Misses P. and B. Fleming and Miss M. Simmons are at Wellington. Dr. Kelly, who has lately been indisposed, has recovered. Mr. G. Hanright recently caught a 211 b schnapper from off the rocks at Bayly Road. Local fishermen are having * very prosperous season ibis yeoa. 1
