INGLEWOOD NEWS

DEATH OF MR. GEORGE MILES. The death occurred at the New Plymouth hospital yesterday morning after a long illness of Mr. George Miles, an old and highly esteemed resident of the Inglewood district. Mr. Miles was bom at Welbourne and as a boy was employed at Mr. Henry Brown’s sawmill there. When Mr. Brown transferred his mill to Inglewood Mr. Miles also moved to that town, where he continued to work for Mr. Brown, he being over 30 years at the mill.

Later Mr. Miles took up land on Lincoln Road, where he continued to reside until his death. Mr. Miles married Miss Mary Storing, who predeceased him by 15 months. Mr. Miles is survived by six daughters and five sons, Mr. Alfred Miles, the eldest of the family having died on his way to the war. Harvest Festival.

The Harvest festival was celebrated at St Andrew’s Anglican Church, Inglewood, on Sunday. The church was decorated for the occasion and there was a large offering of vegetables and fruit. At the evening service anthems were sung by a large choir. The offering of vegetables etc. was later forwarded by the vicar to the Rev. Feilding-Taylor for use in the City Mission, Wellington. Band Recital.

The Inglewood Municipal Band gave a recital at Children’s Park on Sunday afternoon. There was a good attendance of the public which highly appreciated the concert.
