OHURA SHOW ASSOCIATION

PREPARATIONS FOR BIG EVENT. A meeting of the Ohura Show Association was held in the Niho Niho hall on Thursday. It was decided to engage the Stratford Pixie Band to play for the dancing and to be in attendance during the day. The secretary read several letters from interested people in the Taranaki province making inquiries as to available accommodation. Members pointed out that through the completion of the StratfordMain Trunk railway the district had been brought in close relationship with the rest of Taranaki. The secretary is to approach the Mayor of Taumarunui requesting that Thursday, the second 4 day of the show, be proclaimed a half-holiday, instead of Wednesday.

Additional donations of prizes were received. Mr. D. O’Sullivan, judge of the Jersey section, wrote agreeing to give a demonstration of the points of a dairy cow on the second day. Mr. Duxfield, Horotiu, wrote accepting the position of judge for the Shorthorn section. Farewell Social.

On Friday last an evening was tendered in the Otangiwai hall as a farewell to Mr. and Mrs. A. Churcher and family, who are shortly to leave the district. The evening took the form of - a new entertainment for the district in flag five hundred. The winning table consisted of Messrs. G. A. Rhynd, T. Brown, W. Raitt and M. Dunn.

Mr. R. Julian in making a presentation of a cheque to Mr. and Mrs. Churcher stressed the valuable work they had done for the district. Mr. Churcher had for the past three years been a member of the Hall Society and secretary of the school committee. Mr. W. Lyon endorsed the remarks.

Mr. Churcher in returning thanks said they were not going very -far away, to Pio Pio, from which they hoped to pay many visits to Otangiwai. Dancing concluded the evening. Mrs. E. C. Thomas, provided the music and Mr. C. J. McDougall was master of ceremonies. Personal Items. Mrs. W. J. Dunn, Hastings, is spending a short holiday with her mother, Mrs. T. V. Carter, Matiere. Mr. and Mrs. T. V. Stein have returned to Matiere after spending the Christmas vacation at Auckland. Mrs. A. Lithgow, Ngaere, has been paying a short visit to her mother, Mrs. A. Bradshaw. Miss M. Granville returned from Auckland by car on Sunday after having spent a month’s holiday in Australia. Misses M. and C. Phillips, Waiuku, are the guests of their grandparents, Mr. and Mis. E. Sowry, Matiere. Messrs. C. D. and A. L. Hargan, Cambridge, visited Matiere .during the weekend. Miss G. H. Grenall has returned to Matiere after spending a holiday in the South Island.
