AMERICAN LIQUOR QUOTA

IMPORT TRADE CONFUSED SECOND PERIOD SOON OPENS SUGGESTION TO AUSTRALIA STORE IN BONDED HOUSES By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Rec. 5.5 p.m. Washington, Feb. 6. With the second liquor quota period opening on March 1 the import situation continues to be as confused as ever. The larger exporting countries are still negotiating for increased quotas, but the smaller exporting countries for the greater part are still in the dark concerning the allotments that will be made to them. No official quota was asked for by Australia in the first quota period, which closed on January 12, but a 30,000 gallons quota has been asked for in the second period closing on April 30. Since there will be six annual quota periods it is thought here that Australian exporters might keep supplies in American bonded warehouses in order to be able to take prompt advantage of quota allowance notifications in the future.
