HUNDRED CHINESE DROWN
EXPLOSION ON RIVER SHIP. 200 THROWN INTO ICY WATER. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Rec. 10 p.m. Shanghai, Jan. 25. A river • disaster is reported from Hankow. The Chinese steamer Weitung, plying on the Yangtsze River, caught fire, causing a boiler explosion which precipitated more than 200 passengers into the icy waters. The ship sank almost immediately. The death roll is uncertain but the authorities believe at least 100 Chinese were drowned.
