CATHOLIC INSTRUCTIONS
NEW SYLLABUS FOR SCHOOLS. CONFERENCE OF TEACHERS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night.. The annual conference of the Catholic Religious Teachers’ Association of New Zealand concluded here to-day, when reports, which included important recommendations, were received from a subcommittee appointed to complete the discussions on teacher training and the syllabus of religious instruction for the Catholic primary and secondary schools of the Dominion, Bishop White (Dunedin) and Bishop Liston (Auckland) were present. A provisional syllabus for primary schools was deferred until May, when a special committee will meet at Wellington. Arrangements were made for the next conference, and it was provisionally decided to meet at Dunedin in January, 1935. The following officers were elected: President, the Rev. Brother O’Connor (rector of Red Castle College, Oamaru); vice-presidents, the Rev. Father J. Dowling (Wellington), the Rev. Father A. Burger (Christchurch), the Rev. Father F. H. Terry, the Rev. Brother Benignus (Auckland); secretary and treasurer, a Christian brother (to be appointed).
