An anti-cyclone is still centred to the north of New Zealand, while the first part of a deep westerly depression has crossed the southern portion of the South Island. Strong north-westerly to westerly winds to gales are probable, backing to southerlies later in the southern portion of the South Island. Seas will be moderate on most of the east coast and elsewhere rather rough to rough.
