“DICTATORIAL METHODS” POLITICAL SUGGESTION MADE ANTI-GOVERNMENT FEELING STAVISKY CASE THE CAUSE ACTION TAKEN BY CABINET By Telegraph—Press Assn.--Copyright. Paris, Jan. 22. In consequence of the newspaper L’Action Francaise head-lining the front page “All against dictatorship meet outside the Chamber of Deputies,” fresh anti-Govemment disturbances broke out. Processions of young men shouted “Down with Chautemps! Down with the thieves! Down with the assassins!” Fireworks were thrown at the gendarmes’ horses until the police quelled the panic and arrested 100 people, including M. Pujo, chief editor of L’Action Francaise. A barricade was formed of torn up trees, iron failings, and benches, with which the rioters blocked the tramlines, turning the streets into a semblance of rubbish heaps. Communists attempted to surround the Town Hall, crying, “Send Chiappe to gaol.” The police prevented other bands of Communists from joining the rioters. The Chamber of Deputies rose at 7.15, while the demonstrations were in full swing, and watched the -police restore order. , - . The Cabinet approved of the first measures of the Prime Minister, M. Camille Chautemps, arising from the Stavisky scandal, including the retirement of M. Guichard, director of police and judiciary, the suspension of Police Commissioner Beyard and Inspector Bony pending an appearance before the Disciplinary Board, the transference of M. Gilbert, police commissioner, from Bayonne, the suspension of M. Ducloux, controller-general at the Surete Generale, although he remains in the service. A written explanation is demanded from M. Montabre, commissioner of the Surete Generale, and M. Ameline, prefect of nolice. Decision was reserved in the case of M. Hennett, commissioner of the Surete Generale. The inquiry is at present not complete.
