UNEMPLOYMENT AT KAPONGA

DECREASE IN FIGURES SHOWN. Tire unemployment register at Kaponga at present contains -the name of one single man, five married men with up to two children and four married men with three or more children, making the total registrations 10. At the same period in 1933 the registrations totalled 19, in 1932 they were 13 and in 1931 24. The peak of registrations was in July, 1932, when the register contained the names of 52 unemployed. For the week ending January 13 work has been provided for one A, five B and four C class workers. Of this number one A,, four B and one C are under the control of the Kaponga Town Board and one B and three C men under the Eltham county engineer. Kaponga General News. Telegraph traffic at the Kaponga post office during the Christmas period showed a 20 per cent, increase of forward messages compared with the same period ill 1932, whilst the received messages showed an increase of about 30 per cent. Postal matter also showed a slight increase over the previous year. Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Crighton and family have gone on a motor visit to Auckland, where Mr. Grighton’s annual vacation will be spent. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Jones, Wellington, who have been staying with Mrs. Jones' mother, Mrs. J. Guy, during the Christmas holidays, left on Friday morning for Wellington. Mr. A. B. Carroll, of the automatic telephone exchange staff, Hawera, has taken up duty at the Kaponga post office in place of Mr. W. I. Rowe, who has been transferred to Hawera. Mr. R. Mortimer, Te Aroha, who has been staying with his aunt, Mrs. J. O’Donoghue, for the Christmas holidays, has returned home. Mr. and jVlrs. Owen Champtaloup are visiting Masterton, where they are the guests of'Mrs. Champtaloup's sister, Mrs. L. A. Bennett. > Mr. and Mrs. A. T. nonore and family are spending the Christmas Vacation on a motor tour in the North Auckland district. Mrs. I. E. Evans, who has conducted a tea rooms and confectionpry business at Kaponga for many years has disposed Of her business. Mrs. Evans intends to continue residence at Kaponga.
