CALF-REARING SUCCESSES
UPPER MANGOREI SCHOOL.
ANNUAL CONCERT HELD.
There was a large attendance of adults at the Upper Mangorei hall on Tuesday night, when the school produced its annual concert. . Santa Claus distributed gifts, and games were played and supper was served by a ladies’ committee.
The teacher, Mr. H. Gorringe, was responsible for the arrangement of the following programme: Song, “Here We Are Again,” the school; song, “New Zealand,” the school; recitation, "A Plea for Christmas Presents,” Patty West; song, “My Own Country,” the school; dialogue, “Town Child and Country Child,” Muriel Knauf and Brian Radford; recitation, “Disobedience,” Heather Johnston; song, “The Three Black Crows,” Cathie Jamieson, Una Jamieson, Jean Wood; recitation, “Crossword Puzzles,” Pearl Spencer; song, “Fairy Glade,” Patty West and Heather Johnson; recitation, “Poetry,'’ Cathie Jamieson; pianoforte solo, “The Black Hawk Waltz,” Mr. Balsom; song, “Canoe Song,” girls; recitation, “Sea Fever,” Bert Spencer; recitation, .“Imitation,” Patty West; fishing songs, the school; recitation, “The Mad Dog,” Betty Pearce; song, “Summer is a-coming in,” the school; viola solo, Mr. H. Gorringe; song, “Merry Christmas,” the school; old girls’ play, Misses W. Jackson, M. Wood, G. Pearce, J. Balsom and P. Wells. Mr. J. D. Pearce, chairman of the school committee, said the concert had been a most enjoyable one, and he congratulated the performers. The school had come fairly successfully through another year. At the end of the second term the teacher had resigned. Her place had been taken by Mr. Gorringe, who had done well under difficulties. In the boys and girls’ club competitions the school had been particularly successful. In a class of 49 calves the Upper Mangorei school had filled first, second and third places. The children did really great work and they were entitled to receive more support from their parents than they had in the past. The two Spencer children and Brian Radford had been among the most successful in ealfrearing work. A vote of thanks to the school committee, proposed by Mr. S. Jacksen, was carried by acclamation. The school was well served by its committee, said Mr. Jackson,
