LONDON DAIRY MARKETS. BUTTER AND CHEESE PRICES. The following report on the London dairy produce market was received at New Plymouth yesterday:— ■ Mr. H. M. Thomson (Anglo-Continen-tal'Produce Co., Ltd.): Butter: New Zealand, 68s. to 695. Cheese: White 495., coloured 455. The markets are unsteady owing to the holidays. NATIONAL MUTUAL LIFE. STRONG POSITION MAINTAINED. New business written by the National Mutual Life Association for the year ended September 30, 1933, amounted to £7,577,445, being £1,027,784 in excess of that written for the previous year. The total income was £4,662,814, which included £3,238,307 for premiums and £1,424,507 (after deduction of rates and taxes amounting to £292,090) for interest The total amount paid to policy-hold-ers or their representatives during the year was £3,043,708. The total assurances in force at the end of the year amounted to £85,559,573. As the result of the year’s transactions the sum of £1,214,891 was added to the assurance fund, which amounted to £36,243,174 at the close of the year. The investment reserve fund was also added to . and now amounts to £776,244. Bonus certificates showing reversionary. bonuses allotted to policies for the policy year current at September 30, 1933, will be issued in March, 1934. WOOL, HIDE AND SKIN SALE. PRICES RISE AT STRATFORD. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford, reports having held the monthly auction on Tuesday. An attractive catalogue comprised 52 bales of wool oddments, 1164 sheepskins, a quantity of horse hair, 426 hides and 14 packages of tallow. There was a full bench of buyers. The prices for all produce were above last month’s sale rates. The range of prices is:— . Hamilton, December 19. There was again a heavy yarding of fat sheep and lambs at the Frankton sale to-day. Competition for wethers remained steady at rates on a par with late sales. Only a small yarding of ewes came forward. Heavy buying by the butchers for the Christmas market resulted in lambs meeting with spirited bidding, and rates were in advance of export values. Ox beef was again penned in good quantity. Prices for heavyweight cattle remained firm, while rates for good quality medium and lighter weights showed a decided increase. Cow and heifer beef was penned in smaller numbers and showed an increase on late sales. There was again a heavy yarding of fat pigs, and values for baconers were easier. Porkers remained at about equal to late quotations. A small yarding of stores sold freely under good competition. The auctioneers report as follows: Fat sheep: Prime fat wethers sold at 21s. to 245., best fat ewes 12s. 6d. to 15s. 6d., others 9s. to Ils. 3d., best heavy lambs 18s. 7d. to 21s. 9d., others 14s. to 16s. 3d. Fat cattle: Fat bullocks £5 10s. to £6 155., choice fat cows and heifers £4 to £5 95., ordinary quality fat cotvs £3 to £3 17s. 6d., others to 525. Fat pigs: Topweight baconers to £2 125., lightweight baooners 425. to 465., heavy porkers to 385., light porkers 31s. to 355. Store pigs: Well-grown stores 225. to 275., small stores 17s. to 215., best weaners 14s. to 16s. 6d., small weaners Ils. 6d. to 13s. 6d.
